This paper is an English-Chinese translation practice report. The author selects the English subtitles of the BBC children’s history enlightenment series Teacup Travels as the translation text The report analyzes and summarizes the difficulties and problems encountered in translation practice, and puts forward corresponding translation strategies. The report consists of five main parts.Firstly,it introduces the content of the source text and the significance of this translation task, describes the translation process and literature review. The fourth part case analysis is essential.Under the guidance of Eugene A.Nida’s Functional Equivalence Theory, the author uses the methods of free translation, transliteration and ellipsis to translate the discourse markers, slangs and idioms of the subtitles, and makes the translation more fluent by adjusting the word order and using linear translation. The author introduces how to be faithful to the original content in the process of translation in order to achieve functional equivalence. Finally, the author summarizes the experience and shortcomings of this translation practice in the fifth part. From this translation practice, the author is familiar with the knowledge of subtitle translation, and makes an in-depth study of relevant translation theories and strategies. The author hopes that the report can provide some useful enlightenment for other subtitle translators.
