A Report On The C-E Translation Of The Empty Basket Under The Guidance Of Reception Aesthetic Theory

This paper is a Chinese-English translation practice report.The author takes the short children’s novel The Empty Basket written by Cao Wenxuan as a practical English report.Based on the theory of reception aesthetics,the translator specifically analyzes the application of reception aesthetics theory in the translation of The Empty Basket.The translator analyzes The Empty Basket from the perspective of reservation of words,language devices and blanks of the text.To satisfy children’ horizon of expectation,the translator employs transliteration of names,literal translation of onomatopoeia words and free translation of reduplicated words.To cater for children’s reading interests,the translator adopts language devices like literal translation of rhetorical devices,free translation of children’s tone and splitting translation of long sentences.To arouse children’s participation,the translator fills and remains blanks.At last,the translator summarizes the translation practice of children’s literature,which is conducive to children’s literature translation.Only by achieving the interactions between the original work and translators as well as the readers and the translated works,can the literature works be accepted by child readers.
