A Report On The C-E Translation Of Tea Stories Among The Folks(Excerpts)from The Perspective Of Eco-translatology

This translation report is based on the Chinese to English translation of the prologue and the first nine chapters of Tea Stories among the Folks(《人间茶话》).The book is written by Mr.He Song,a member of the China Writers Association and the vice-chairman of Lincang Writers Association.It mainly discusses the origin of tea and the spread of tea culture and includes anecdotes of various kinds of tea.The translation can help to make more foreign readers know about the folk tea culture of Southwest China,contributing to the"going abroad"of Chinese culture.This report presents how,under Eco-translatology’s guidance,the Three-dimensional Transformations,and Adaptation and Selection Principle were used to achieve desirable translations.The three dimensions include the linguistic dimension,the cultural dimension and the communicative dimension.To achieve the transformation,specific translation methods and techniques were adopted,including literal translation,annotation and free translation.Adaptation and Selection can be achieved under translator-centredness,and Adaptation and Selection is used from the lexical level,through syntactical level and textual level to obtain eco-balance.The translation practice and the report combine to show that the Three-dimensional Transformations and Adaptation and Selection Principle can serve as suitable methods for translation practices of similar informative texts.It is hoped that the methods demonstrated and the lessons drawn in the report will be helpful to later practitioners undertaking similar projects(the tea history of Yunnan).
