Literature has developed into the crystallization of human spiritual civilization after thousands of years of accumulation. In the last one hundred years, films are inevitably influenced by literature. This influence is not only reflected in the objective reflection of human survival, but also in the social value position, the aesthetic angle of art,and the spiritual exploration of human beings.Throughout the world, most of the classic films come from the adaptation of world famous novels. The development of Chinese film is also accompanied by literature.Today, due to the rapid development of the market economy,as the representative of elite culture, literature has gradually declined its attraction to the public, and novel reading has become increasingly marginalized.People are more inclined to accept the visual cultural entertainment,so the film has become a popular hot spot.SU Tong and YAN Geling are contemporary Chinese writers, large number of their novels have been adapted into film and television works. The film works adapted from their novels are outstanding in both quantity and quality. What is valuable is that the huge social influence of film adaptation did not make them out of the literary position. They still have strong vitality for literary creation, and they also affect more people to enjoy the novel reading. From Su Tong and Yan Geling,we can see the possibility of positive interaction between literature and film. Therefore,it is of positive significance to study the film adaptation of their novels. In this paper,by comparing their novel texts and the films adapted from the novels,to study the reason why the two writers’ novels are favored by the director, mainly from the narrative of the story and the visual characteristics of the texts.Meanwhile, tries to analyze how the ‘anti-filming’ contents in the novels are handled by the director and how do these contents inspire the directors to re-create the texts into the films. In order to explore the deep reasons why the two writers’ novels are often be adapted and the commonness of the novel texts. The text close reading and comparative analysis are the main method of this paper by which to study the texts of SU Tong’s and YAN Geling’s novels adapted into films. There are four chapters in the paper. The first chapter introduces the film adaptation of SU Tong’s and YAN Geling’s novels,as well as the influence of film adaptation on the spread of their novels. The second chapter focus on the narrative features of the two writers’ novels from the perspective of good story: Firstly, tries to find the literary commonness in the life philosophy of characterization;Secondly, discusses how the experimental spirit embodied in the novels of SU Tong and YAN Geling, and compares the unique narrative strategies and structures in their novels,so as to find the creative commonness in the novel texts. The third chapter focuses on the sense of image, and compares the aesthetic commonness of their novels in the visual and audio characteristics from three aspects:vision and hearing;light, shadow and color;lens sense in detail description, which are the formal motivation of the film adaption. The fourth chapter discusses the ‘anti-filming’ contents—the deleted contents of the novels which are not be made in the film adaptation.Tries to analyze the reasons behind the major changes made by the director and the role of these contents in the novel in maintaining literary. At last,it is concluded that the good stories and the sense of image in their novels are the important reasons for the film adaption, and their adherence to the literary position guarantees the continuous high quality of their novels. In the future, the film adaptation of novels will be more frequent, which will have a positive impact on the spread of novels. However, the popularity and consumption of films will weaken the literariness of novels.Contemporary writers could strengthen the story and audio-visual sense in the excavation novels, and consider writing more ‘anti-filming’ contents in the novels with literary purity,so that the novels can’t be simply adapted on the screen, but to stimulate the director to adapt new films through further creativity. The future film should not be in opposition or substitution with literature, but both achieve a win-win situation,in order to promote the new development opportunity of literature,so as to realize the healthy interaction between Chinese contemporary literature and the films.
