Research On New Colour Words In Modern Chinese

This paper takes 2404 new color words in modern Chinese as the research object,and studies them from eight aspects: concept,syllable,structure,colour mark,semantics,pragmatics,cause and influence.Conceptually,this paper gives the definition of new color words in modern Chinese,and demonstrates that they belong to words rather than phrases.In terms of syllables,this paper classifies and analyzes the number of syllables of new color words,and finds that the number of syllables increases generally,and the three-syllable words take the absolute advantage.In terms of structure,this paper mainly analyzes the modifier-head structure of new color words.The main structure are “modifier morpheme + color-marked morpheme” and “modifier morpheme + 色” of the modifier-head structure with color-marked morphemes.And nouns are the main types of modifier morphemes.In the aspect of color mark,this paper classifies and analyzes the types of color marks of new color words,and finds that there are both basic color words and non-basic color words to be used as color marks.The basic color word “red” and non-basic color word “pink” are the most.There is also a part of corpus without color-marked morpheme,and among them,the ones with concrete objects or image association are dominant.Objectively,the semantic of new color words is of fuzziness,nationality,popularity and specificity.Subjectively,it is of subjectivity,association and accuracy.In pragmatic aspect,new color words have strong pertinence,but usage situation is limited and the number of users is small.The time of use is also short,and they will be eliminated with the trends and products.This paper analyzes the causes of new color words from three aspects: the inner part of vocabulary,psychology and environment.The internal factors of vocabulary are the development trend,the mechanism of analogy and expression requirements of language.The psychological factor is people’s psychology of seeking new and different things.The environmental factor are the progress of color technology brought by the development of society and a more nuanced perception of color from human,as well as the commercial marketing need.In the aspect of influence,the new color words have both positive and negative effects.New color words make up the deficiency of the modern Chinese color words,fill the vacancy and enrich the modern Chinese color words.However,new color words’ collocations are too casual.And they lack standard and stable structure,clear and definite meaning.And usage time of new color words is also short.These may impact on the modern Chinese vocabulary system.Language changes from moment to moment.This paper holds that new color words are the inevitable and necessary result in the development of modern Chinese vocabulary.We should treat them with tolerance and absorb their scientific and reasonable points so as to enrich the language itself and promote the development of the language.
