The source text of this translation report is an academic paper written by Robert Stickgold, which is included in Chapter two "Creativity and the Brain" in Secrets of Creativity — What Neuroscience, the Arts, and Our Minds Reveal. This paper explores the relationship between dream, sleep state and creativity. This translation report helps readers especially neurologists to deepen their understanding of the promoting role of sleep and dreams in the process of initiating creativity, and has some implications for the research in this field in China.Based on the practical experience and examples given by the translator, this report discusses difficulties and corresponding strategies in the process of translating academic papers.Major translation difficulties include nominalized structures, terminologies, abbreviations, long and complex sentences.Under the guidance of the functional equivalence theory, the translator uses translation techniques such as conversion, inversion and voice transformation in the process of translation. It is hoped that this translation report can provide some feasible translation strategies for similar types of texts.
