Fun for All:Translation and Accessibility Practices in Video Games is a collection of essays compiled by experts in the field as well as various researchers. The volume is divided into two sections:the first includes four articles on game accessibility, while the second contains nine articles on different issues affecting game translation and localization. The translator has selected the preface of the book and Translating Fun for All:Promoting Accessibility in Video Games by Alberto Fernández Costales,Associate Professor at the University of Oviedo,as the material for translation practice and case studies. The contribution Translating Fun for All:Promoting Accessibility in Video Games,by Alberto Fernandez Costales, highlights the important role translation studies can play in promoting game accessibility. The author underlines the importance of a broader concept of accessibility aiming at promoting e-inclusion and allowing access to video games to the widest possible audience, including those who speak a different language and those who have special needs. He argues that the relationship between translation and accessibility in the context of the gaming industry needs to be further explored, and supports the idea that translation is a key element to fostering e-inclusion.In this thesis, the translator first discusses the theoretic guidance of functional equivalence theory for translation of English academic papers, taking into account the connotation of functional equivalence theory and the characteristics of academic papers. Then, she analyzes the key and difficult points in translation practice from three perspectives, namely lexical, syntactic and stylistic, and uses specific translation strategies and techniques to solve the difficult problems under the guidance of functional equivalence theory. Finally, conclusions are drawn. In translating professional terms, translators should have a rigorous translation attitude, and adopt the methods of additional translation and annotation when necessary;in dealing with passive voice, the method of free translation and voice transformation can be adopted;in translation of other types of long and difficult sentences the methods of inversion and splitting can be applied, etc. In terms of the style of academic papers, extra attention should be paid to professional vocabulary, accurate word choice, appropriate language, formal style in order to ensure fluent and logical translation. The translation practice report applies functional equivalence theory to the translation of academic papers on game localization, which can help target readers understand the meaning of the original text to the greatest extent, and at the same time provide a reference for the translation of academic papers on game localization, thereby further promoting the international academic exchanges in this field.
