As a theoretical concept, consumer society has always been regarded as a critical concept since it was put forward. In the sense of entity, although consumer society embodies the new characteristics of modern social development and highlights the status of consumption,it does not get rid of the control of capital logic and is still a positioning of capitalism.Under the control of capital logic, the philosophical basis of the formation of consumption society is that people’s desire is infinite,so consumption is also infinite. Therefore,in order to break the philosophical foundation of consumer society,we should start with limited thinking, and Marx’s philosophy contains limited thinking.Marx’s thought of finiteness is not the thought expressed directly by him,but the thought presented by Marx in his criticism of German classical philosophy on the basis of continuing Feuerbach’s philosophical road.Although the academic circle has not reached a consensus on Marx’s thought of finiteness, many scholars still pay attention to it and carry out some theoretical research, which provides a new perspective for criticizing the consumer society.Criticizing the consumer society from the perspective of Marx’s thought of finiteness not only lies in that Marx’s thought of finiteness can directly touch the philosophical foundation of the formation of consumer society and reveal its unlimited demand of desire and even consumption expansion under the control of capital logic, but also in that it can transform the criticism of consumer society from unlimited criticism to limited criticism. To criticize the consumption society infinitely, that is to say,to deny the rational consumption of human beings because of negating the consumption society;to criticize the alienated consumption and affirm the reasonable social consumption in the perspective of Marx’s finiteness thought, can reveal the alienated nature of the consumption society and face up to the rationality of social consumption, and the two are disappearing It is equally important in Fei’s criticism. This paper mainly discusses from four parts. The introduction describes the background and significance of critical research on consumer society from the perspective of Marx’s limited thought, and explains the relevant research status at home and abroad,as well as the research objectives and research ideas of this paper. The first chapter explores the source and basic content of Marx’s thought of finiteness.Marx’s thought of finiteness is based on Kant,Hegel and Feuerbach’s discussion of finiteness. The second chapter reveals the alienation essence of capitalist consumer society, criticizes capitalist consumer society, and then from the positive aspect, from the perspective of Marx’s thought of finiteness, envisages the rationality of social consumption itself, including the relationship between finiteness and human needs, finiteness and production practice, finiteness and pursuit of infinity. The third chapter puts forward the construction of the concept of reasonable consumption, mainly from three aspects: adhering to the people-oriented value orientation, giving consideration to production and consumption activities, and leading the Chinese direction of the concept of reasonable consumption.
