With the theme of Baudrillards "consumption alienation",this article studies the connotation and origin of consumption alienation theory, responds to Baudrillards criticism of Marx, and explores how people return from lost self to rational self in a consumer society. The main body of the article is divided into four parts. The first part clarifies the conceptual connotation and origin of "consumption alienation",and combs the evolution of the concept of consumption alienation among Western Marxists. The second part analyzes the emergence of the phenomenon of "consumer society",focuses on the alienation of time and space in the current consumer society, and interprets the necessity and rationality of the phenomenon of "consumer society"from the perspective of historical materialism. The third part mainly adopts the method of comparative research to compare Baudrillards criticism of consumption alienation embodied in "Consumer Society" with Marxs criticism. The relative lack of material production in Marxs era makes consumption impossible to be the focus of attention. The fourth part is the reflection on Baudrillards consumption alienation theory. After profoundly revealing the face of consumer society,Baudrillards critical theory of consumption alienation gradually loses his critical spirit beyond himself.
