| From the time Bing Xin published the first novel "Two Families" in September 1919 to the last novel "Interference" in September 1989,Bing Xin’s novel career has gone through seventy years.During this time,Bing Xin wrote six satirical novels in the strict sense and nine short stories with satirical color.The art of satire is reflected in many of Bing Xin’s novels.This article explores the ironic art of Bing Xin’s novels from three aspects: the ironic content,the art form,and the reasons for formation.The first chapter is three periods of satire writing.In the 1920 s,signs of irony appeared in Bing Xin’s novels,she created various negative characters,and deliberately highlighted their "ugly" characteristics.In the process of exposing social problems and insighting into the hearts of the people,many novels such as "Sacrifice under the Small Family System" and "An Officer’s Notes" overflowed with satire.In the 1930 s and 1940 s,Bing Xin’s sense of irony was unprecedentedly high.The novels "Our Wife’s Living Room" and "Photos" of this period also released unprecedented ironic edge.She extended her satire to the familiar intellectual class,and deeply criticized the hypocritical interpersonal relationship and complex human nature.After entering the mid-1980 s,Bing Xin publicly expressed her views on satirical novels.In the four novels published successively,such as "Monk from afar" and "Everything is Top Grade",Bing Xin not only revealed the ideological existence of satirical objects,but also consciously used satire as a weapon to attack current affairs.It can be seen that Bing Xin’s powerful practice of the irony concept she advocated.The second chapter is the presentation form of satire art.The satirical art of Bing Xin’s novels has a distinctive personal style.First of all,when the narrator is hidden in the text,the irony in Bing Xin’s novels presents a calm and implied satire style;When the narrator intentionally appears and intervenes,the ironic art of Bing Xin’s novels shows sharp and exposed feature.Secondly,Bing Xin didn’t overly pursue technical modification,but still chose her best at contrast and detailed description,which invisibly increased the irony effect of the novels.Finally,Bing Xin’s novel language retains the consistent style of "Bing Xin’s literary form",and at the same time,Bing Xin also pursues casual humor.This kind of humor is a kind of cold humor without losing temperature.Both constitute the soft and ironic language in Bing Xin’s novels.The third chapter explores the reasons of satirical traits.First of all,Bing Xin wrote satire with the principle of reflecting the truth.This is because the irony materials are all derived from real life,and the reason why Bing Xin was able to display satirical talent to her fullest in the novels is also due to fictitious nature of the novels’ literary genre.Secondly,Bing Xin held zealous and fair ironic attitude,trying to use satirical writing to arouse social changes and introspect her own culture.Finally,Bing Xin was deeply influenced by ancient and modern,Chinese and foreign satirical novels.She had a lively and cheerful temperament,and she loved and hated distinctly.The social environment where the transition from the old to the new and the open and inclusive literary atmosphere all provided the possibility for the emergence of Bing Xin’s satire.The identity from a wealthy and influential family,and the stable life experience cultivated Bing Xin’s mild ironc personality. |
