The aesthetic turn of the body is one of the basic characteristics of the development of postmodern visual art.The fundamental reason is the profound change of body view in western philosophy, that is,from the dualism of separation of body and mind to the systematic monism of combination of body and mind.Secondly, the influence of the era of visual reading has opened a convenient door for the dissemination and acceptance of body art.The rise of consumer culture and mass culture has abolished the boundary between art and life, making the body images created by artists no longer be confined to the framework of beauty, but constantly intervene in the society to generate new body experience, thus creating more subversive and rebellious body images.Cindy Sherman(1954)is an American postmodern conceptual artist. Her creation is always based on her own body, and she shapes herself with the help of dressing up,artificial limbs and props. The work interprets the illusion of mass social and cultural body image, touches the core level of visual art,and challenges the traditional photography aesthetics with male as the center. Therefore, the work is often divided into the category of feminism for discussion. The research object of this paper is Cindy Sherman’s body visual art works.Firstly, based on the background of body turning in the field of aesthetics and art, this paper discusses the reasons and characteristics of Cindy Sherman’s body style.Secondly, based on the traditional "feminist" perspective, this paper innovatively expands Sherman’s narrative content of female body.Interpretation is no longer limited to whether her body image conforms to or reveals the binary gender frame of male desire vision. It is a transition to the accurate reflection of popular culture, consumption, art history, social disasters and other realistic issues, that is,from the ancient and modern cultural role models to focus on social consumption, the real people in the disaster. In terms of visual representation, the body gradually deforms from the typical beauty and finally disintegrates and conceals.Cindy Sherman’s insistence on presenting the body as a highly pictorial text can actually be read as a cultural statement. Finally, this paper summarizes the metaphorical meaning of Cindy Sherman’s body expression with Merleau Ponty’s "flesh of the world"."flesh of the world" means that the body becomes the channel and means of the world and makes the body global.Sherman’s body-based art practice is not limited to the female body experience, but about people. Her body reflects,in a detached and often humorous way,the hodgepodge of images that make up our view of the world.
