On E-C Translation Of Protecting Our Water, Soil And Air(Excerpts) From The Perspective Of Text Typology

The higher attention to environmental protection makes it necessary to learn foreign environmental protection measures and to communicate among countries.Protecting Our Water,Soil and Air:A Code of Good Agricultural Practice for Farmers,Growers and Land Managers,firstly published in 2009 and constantly updated,is a guide produced by British government to help protect environment from pollution of agricultural activities.The first three selected chapters introduce general information of pollution by agricultural activities,and offer advice covering soil fertility and plant nutrients,and management plan.Under the guidance of text typology theory proposed by Reiss,the thesis has studied the translation of the source text and adopted corresponding translation method and strategies according to text features.According to text typology,the text type of the code is established as informative text.The text features are analyzed as following:pronouns and possessive pronouns,modal verbs,agricultural terminologies,passive voice,imperative sentences and complex sentences.Besides,the text tends to be content-focused and language logical.Based on the above features,the thesis analyzes specific translation practice and then adopts translation methods,such as deletion,person transformation,passive-to-active transformation,literal and interpreting translation,reconstruction,and so on.This translation material is written for farmers,growers and land managers in British to protect the environment from the pollution of agricultural activities,which is of significant importance for domestic specialists in the field of agriculture to learn from,in order to solve environmental pollution from agriculture in China.Therefore,the study of the translation has practical significance,and may provide reference for the future translation.
