Since chunk theory has been introduced into the international Chinese teaching classroom,its advantages and potential have been widely explored.More and more empirical studies have shown that the application of chunk teaching can effectively help Chinese learners to decode and code language quickly,reduce the burden of Chinese learning,improve learning efficiency,and form authentic and accurate Chinese expressions.Emphasizing the awareness of chunks and improving the ability to recognize,understand,and use chunks at the elementary stage can lay the foundation for Chinese learning at the intermediate and advanced stages.However,due to various factors,chunk teaching has not been comprehensively promoted and applied to international Chinese teaching.Based on the theory of chunks,this thesis attempts to conduct chunk teaching in the elementary Chinese classroom for foreign students.First,through literature review,summarizes and sorts out the research on the definition and classification of chunks at home and abroad,combining with specific Chinese classrooms teaching and the characteristics of textbooks,clears the selection criteria of chunks selecting to select the chunks in the HSK Standard Course(Ⅰ,Ⅱ,Ⅲ).According to the criteria,summarizes and classifies the chunks in the textbooks to determine the basic content of elementary Chinese classroom chunk teaching for foreign students.Secondly,according to the characteristics of the elementary Chinese teaching,this paper discusses the influence of elementary Chinese classroom chunk teaching for foreign students from the aspects of teaching practice design and experiment before,during and after class.Studies have shown that the use of language chunks in elementary Chinese classroom teaching for foreign students is helpful to the recognition of learned chunks;it helps to improve the understanding and application ability of chunks,and comprehensively improves the accuracy and appropriateness of Chinese expression;and the ability to recognize chunks is positively correlated with the ability to use chunks.Thirdly,based on the Chinese teachers’ understanding,application,satisfaction and willingness to promote the teaching of chunks,this paper makes a comprehensive analysis and evaluation of the experimental results of chunks teaching,points out the advantages of the elementary Chinese classroom chunks teaching for foreign students,and puts forward the following shortcomings: teacher teaching ability of chunk teaching is insufficient;students’ Chinese proficiency varies greatly,etc.Finally,the corresponding teaching suggestions are put forward,and it is suggested to cultivate the awareness of chunks from three aspects: teaching materials,teachers and students;to strengthen the ability of teachers and students to recognize chunks,enhancing their ability of recognition,memory and understanding;to emphasize the input and reproduction of chunks,to design different chunks output activities and to strengthen the output of chunks for different categories of chunks;and to establish corresponding chunks item tables to facilitate the search and recitation of memories.
