An E-C Translation Report On Early Mongol Rule In Thirteenth-Century Iran(Section 3,Chapter 4)

This is an English-Chinese translation report.The source text of the translation practice is taken from Early Mongol Rule in Thirteenth-Century Iran(Section 3,Chapter 4)written by George Lane.The source text mainly tells us the rule of the Mongol Empire in Iran in the 13th century and power struggles among the Mongol Khanates.Section 3,Chapter 4 of the source text presents historical events of Baraq khan in eastern Iran.In the process of translating,the translator met a large number of difficulties.At the lexical level,there are plenty of proper nouns such as names of people or places without the corresponding Chinese translation.In addition,some words cannot be translated naturally in line with the word class of the source text.Besides,some words with evaluation also need to be handled carefully during the translating process.At the syntactic level,the translation difficulties involve translating attributive clauses and nominal clauses.In the translation practice,many translation techniques were flexibly adopted by the translator.At the lexical level,transliteration,annotation,Chinese four-character idioms and conversion of parts of speech were used to translate words.At the syntactic level,when tackling with attributive clauses,the translator employed the techniques of sequential translation,combination and amplification;when coping with nominal clauses,the translator selected techniques of division,omission and recasting in order to achieve faithfulness,smoothness and naturalness of the translation.
