It is an E-C translation report on Early Mongol Rule in Thirteenth-Century Iran. The book written by George Lane mainly relates the culture renaissance of Iran under the rule of Mongol in thirteenth century, consisting of 9 chapters in total. The selected chapter is Chapter 8,which mainly introduces the period of Il-Khanid rule,a time of great literary and spiritual activity. As the selected text is a historical text about Mongol and Iran, involving a lot of historical and cultural content,it is difficult for the translator to understand and translate it.The text contains many famous Sufi poets and their best-known works,as well as some other Sufi orders and their stories. The translator encountered a lot of difficulties during the process of translating, mainly including lexical difficulties and syntactic difficulties.First of all, difficulties at the lexical level include proper nouns,culture-loaded words and some polysemy words. Moreover, difficulties at the syntactic level include attributive clauses, passive sentences, and compound and long sentences. The ultimate goal of translation is to meet the needs of target common readers. Thus,in view of the differences in lexicon and syntax between Chinese language and English language, the translator adopted the corresponding translation methods and techniques, including annotation, conversion and semantic extension to solve the difficulties at the lexical level. As for the difficulties at the syntactic level, the translator employed preposition, postposition, change of voices, following the original order, and reinventing sentence structures. Finally, the translation report makes a summary of the gains and the limitations of the whole process. At last, since the source text is about the history of poets, sufis, and qalandars in13thcentury,the translation of this book will draw the attention of Mongolian scholars and someone who interested in Mongolian history and medieval Iranian history, which will be helpful for them.
