| Ku Hungming is a well-known translator in China,and his English translation of Lunyu u is one of the classic translations of Chinese cultural classics.The English version of Lunyu has been widely acclaimed in the western world,and exploring the underlying reasons behind the popularity of the English version of Ku Hungming’s Lunyu important significance for promoting the external communication of Chinese culture.The thesis uses the core concepts in Bourdieu’s sociology to investigate the English translation of Ku Hungming’s Ltmyu.First of all,the thesis explores the reasons why Ku Hungming chose the translation of Lunyu from the power field and literary field in the field concept.As an excellent literary works in China,the theme of Lunyu fits the value of westerners at that time to promote the acceptance and dissemination in the field of Western literature.The reason why the translator chose to translate Lunyu is closely related to the political,economic and cultural factors of the translator at that the.In the literary field,because Ku Hungming is dissatisfied with the translation of the missionary Legge,he is eager to spread Chinese culture through the translation of classics and restore cultural identity.Second,from the concept of habirus,the thesis analyzes the choice of translation strategy in the process of Ku Hungming’s translation.Ku Hungming’s own family background and academic experience have shaped his unique translation habit.His unique translation habit prompted him to adopt a domestic translation strategy when translating Lunyu to achieve the readability of the translation.Third,starting from the concept of capital,the thesis explores the role of cultural capital and symbolic capital represented by Ku Hungming in the English translation of Lunyu.Ku Hungming’s cultural capital comes from his education in foreign universities and foreign life,which has laid the foundation for him to enter the field of translation,enabling him to take on the important task of translating Lunyu.Ku Hungming’s reputation in the translation field and the status of the original Lunyu turned into symbolic capital,which promotes the successful dissemination of the English translation of Lunyu at home and abroad.Based on the above,the thesis draws the following conclusions:Translation is a practical activity with social attributes.Putting translation activities into a macro-social context for research will help analyze translation and economics,society,and culture from a perspective close to the attributes of translation.The connection between the two provides a new way of thinking for translation studies.When choosing translation works,the translator must first consider the literary value and uniqueness of the original works and the need for literary works in the literary field and social conditions of the target country.At the same time,in the translation process,the translator must be faithful to the original text and must also use flexible translation strategies to achieve the readability and acceptability of the translation and meet the reading needs of readers in the target language.Finally,the translator needs to accumulate capitals so that it can be flexibly converted in the future translation process. |
