Li Panlong, the head of the poetry circle“the Latter Seven Masters”in the Ming Dynasty, was talented and unsurpassable for a time and his representative work is the Cang Ming Collection. The academia has long focused on his literary thoughts while paying little attention to the editions of the collection. In the 1980s,Xu Jiankun first studied the editions of this collection, followed by Li Boqi and Jiang Pengju. However, they all failed to elaborate on the correlations among the editions.Based on previous research, this paper continues to conduct a systematic study on the various editions of the Cang Ming Collection.More than ten editions of the Cang Ming Collection have been found, all of which still exist. The editions include Wang Shizhen’s Edition in the 6thyear of the Emperor Longqing’s reign in the Ming Dynasty;Xu Zhongxing’s Edition in the 2ndyear of the Emperor Wanli’s reign in the Ming Dynasty;Hu Laigong’s Edition in the 3rdyear of the Emperor Wanli’s reign;the reprinted edition checked by Yang Ribin in the 26thyear of the Emperor Wanli’s reign;Chen Sheng’s Edition in the 34thyear of the Emperor Wanli’s reign;Xu Lvdao’s Edition,Zhang Hongdao’s Edition, and Yu Taiyuan’s Edition from Zixin Publishing House in the Ming Dynasty;Wu Yongguang’s Edition, the Si Ku Quan Shu(Complete Library in Four Sections)and Si Ku Quan Shu Hui Yao(A Summary)”Editions from Wenyuan Library in the 17thyear of the Emperor Shunzhi’s reign in the Qing Dynasty;and Li Xianfang’s Edition in the 27thyear of the Emperor Daoguang’s reign in the Qing Dynasty.Wang Shizhen’s Edition in the Ming Dynasty is the original block-printed copy.Later,Xu Zhongxing omitted and added contents on this edition and printed the 32-Volume Edition of the Cang Ming Collection in the 2ndyear of the Emperor Wanli’s reign. Then Yu Taiyuan in the Ming Dynasty reprinted Xu Zhongxing’s Edition.Xu Lvdao in the Ming Dynasty reprinted Wang Shizhen’s Edition, and based on Xu Lvdao’s Edition,Yang Ribin made a reprinted edition. At the same time,he listed the supplemented content of Xu Zhongxing’s30-Volume Edition as his 31stvolume“addendum”,the supplemented appendix as“appendix supplement”and hence his edition consists of 31 volumes.Hu Laigong reprinted Wang Shizhen’s Edition in the 3rdyear of the Emperor Wanli’s reign and Hu’s edition was reprinted by Wu Yongguang in the 17thyear of the Emperor Shunzhi’s reign in the Qing Dynasty.Chen Sheng reprinted Wang Shizhen’s Edition in the 34thyear of Wanli’s reign.Zhang Hongdao’s Edition in the Ming Dynasty which used Wang Shizhen’s Edition for reference in reprinting was the basis of Wenyuan Library’s Si Ku Quan Shu and Si Ku Quan Shu Hui Yao Editions. In the 27thyear of the Emperor Daoguang’s reign in the Qing Dynasty(1847),Li Xianfang and others proofread and reprinted Wang’s Edition. There are 3 systems of the Cang Ming Collection categorized by the volume number of its main text,namely,30 volumes and 1appendix;31 volumes,1 addendum,1 appendix, and 1 appendix supplement;and 32 volumes. The 3 systems are independent and correlated. The 32-Volume Edition was adapted from the30-Volume Edition after additions, deletions, and modifications. The biggest difference between the above two is in the“letter-writing”part.The 31-Volume Edition combines the other two systems by keeping the original content of the 30-Volume Edition and adding the addendum part from the 32-Volume Edition, which makes it the edition with most chapters and comprehensive content.
