On The Development And Evolution Of Narrative Oil Paintings In National Art Exhibitions

There are various ways of narration,which accompany every aspect of our lives.Painting narration,as an older narrative way than writing narration,has continued to this day.In the hundred years since oil painting was introduced into China,narrative painting has always occupied a large proportion in the exhibition.During the period from the founding of the People’s Republic of China to the reform and opening up,influenced by foreign paintings and the intervention of domestic mainstream ideology,the narrative theme of paintings was restricted.With the advent of the information age after the reform and opening up,the traditional narrative mode has faded from the mainstream of painting,and the narrative theme has changed from conceptual propaganda to daily life,from grand narrative to conceptual narrative.Art no longer serves politics,and narrative painting is no longer an accessory to literature.This more diversified and freer narrative provides artists with a freer artistic creation environment.Taking the works in the National Art Exhibition as an example,the National Art Exhibition is the most authoritative and influential top exhibition in Chinese art circles with the largest scale,the largest number of exhibitors,the most complete types of paintings,the widest range of participation and the most influential.The works in the National Art Exhibition can better represent the current art development level in China,and the works are relatively representative.From the narrative styles of different times and periods,we can also spy out the development of the times and the changes of people’s lives.Some of these works have been scattered in the long river of history with the passage of time.Some works are friends with time and still shine.They are remembered by art history,mentioned by people and admired by the masses.By studying this subject,I have sorted out the works that have been forgotten by people in the national art exhibition,among which there are many excellent works,which deserve to be remembered by people,and the history and past reflected by the works deserve to be remembered by people even more.Deep feelings,looking back,learning from the past and opening up the present can make us think more about how to create and live now.The article is divided into four parts.The first part briefly expounds the concept of narrative,which leads to narrative painting,introduces the origin of narrative painting and the development of narrative oil painting,and lists some classic works representing painters and appreciates them.It also analyzes the factors that influence the narrative oil painting in China,including domestic factors and foreign factors,thus paving the way for the historical background of narrative oil painting in New China.The second part combs the classic narrative works in the 1st to 12 th National Art Exhibition,which is divided into three chapters and five sections in chronological order.The first chapter mainly combs the representative works of the first four national art exhibitions in the special historical period from the founding of New China to before the reform and opening up.The second chapter mainly combs the representative works of the five national art exhibitions from the reform and opening up to the new century,and the third chapter is the representative works of the three national art exhibitions after the new century.The third part,by combing the works in the national art exhibition,finds out the representative works of different periods to analyze,discusses from three points of modeling,color and composition,and divides the themes of the works into six themes.The fourth part summarizes the development and evolution of narrative oil painting in new China,and the evolution of creative techniques from single to diverse;Evolution from concept propaganda to personal feeling;Evolution from grand narration to daily expression.To sum up,by sorting out and analyzing the representative works in the national art exhibitions,we can find that the early art exhibitions paid more attention to grand historical narrative,and political factors had a great influence on art.In the later art exhibitions,more emphasis was placed on personal narrative and conceptual narrative,and artists paid more attention to personal emotional expression,which was obviously different from traditional narrative in ideological field,creative content,expression and painting techniques.Narrative oil painting has experienced an era from high tide to low tide,reflection and coexistence with diversified art forms.Considering its artistic value in Chinese art history,it shows its unique artistic characteristics in today’s art trend.The evolution history of narrative painting can also reflect the development and evolution of Chinese art in the past70 years.
