Sandplay therapy is a form of psychological counseling and therapy that involves the unconscious creation by sand,sand tables,and tools.During the creative process,the counselor or therapist provides the client with an environment of acceptance,positive attention and full trust,and the client expresses the inner emotions through creative playing.Consultants understand the creating of the chient and communicate with him or her.In this study,guided by the theory of sandplay therapy,Han,a 14-year-old autistic boy from a physical education junior high school in Fushun,Liaoning Province,was taken as a case study.In view of his anger problems,he was given 12 consultation on sandplay therapy.Through the comparison of the scores of the Trait Anger Questionnaire of the Self-Rating Scale and the Autism Rating Scale for Children before and after the consultation,as well as the feedback from the client and his family members,Han’s anger level decreased significantly,the threshold of anger stimulation increased,and the ability of anger awareness and control enhanced.The results show that: first,sandplay therapy can play a role in a short period of time on the emotional problems of mild autism patients.Second,sandplay therapys help people with mild autism express their inner world in the form of images,thus opening a window for further communication and in-depth exploration of their deep beliefs.Third,an accurate understanding of the symbolism and effective communication presented by sandplay therapys is the key to open the heart of people with mild autism.Fourth,a good consultorclient relationship based on trust,acceptance and appreciation is a necessary condition for the effectiveness of the sandplay therapy.Fifth,based on sandplay therapys,flexible use of other consulting methods can maximize the consulting effect and make it persistent. |
