| Wetland,known as the kidney of nature,plays an important role in maintaining natural ecosystem.In order to better protect the wetland ecology in Anqing,under the support of EU-China Biodiversity Programme,wetland experts Zhu Wenzhong and Zhou Lizhi summarized the biodiversity survey in Anqing floodplain wetlands and wrote a book entitled Biodiversity and Conservation in Anqing Floodplain Wetlands was written according to the survey.The book consists of eleven chapters and three sections: “Physical Geography and Socio-economic Overview”,“Biodiversity” and “Conservation and Management”.This translation report is written on the basis of Biodiversity and Conservation in Anqing Floodplain Wetlands(Chapter 8-9).The translation to the source text is guided by Newmark’s Text Typology Theory and communicative translation.It divides texts mainly into three types: informative text,expressive text and vocative text.Biodiversity and Conservation in Anqing Floodplain Wetlands(Chapter 8-9)belongs to science and technology text,which contains a large number of professional terms related to wetlands,subjectless sentences as well as long and complex sentences,with characteristics of accuracy,objectiveness and formality.According to Newmark’s Text Typology Theory,the source text belongs to informative text.After reading and analyzing the selected source text,it is found that there is also some contents which have the intention of attracting readers,so the source text also possesses vocative function.According to Newmark,communicative translation is suitable for informative and vocative texts,so it can be used as the method of translating the source text.In accordance with Text Typology Theory and communicative translation,the translator should pay attention to the accuracy and appeal of words,the readability of the translation and the fidelity and readability of the text.Therefore,the translator adopts different specific translation skills to ensure the accuracy,appeal and readability of the translation,for example,amplification for terms and paratactic sentences translation,conversion into passive voice and of part of speech for the translation of subjectless sentences,combining and splitting for long and complex sentences.This report has five chapters.The first chapter is the description of translation task,introducing the source text,translation task background,research significance as well as thesis structure.The second chapter is translation process description,including pre-translation phase,in-translation phase as well as post-translation phase.In pre-translation phase,the translator reads and analyzes the source text,collects relevant materials and prepares translation tools;in in-translation phase,the translator summarizes the problems encountered in the translation and introduces computer-aided translation tools of memo Q and TMXMALL;in post-translation phase,the translator checks the translation through self revision and cross check.The third chapter is theoretic framework,introducing Newmark’s Text Typology Theory and communicative translation.The fourth chapter is case analysis,which discusses the specific translation skills of C-E translation on wetland-related texts under the guidance of Text Typology Theory and communicative translation.The fifth chapter is conclusion,generalizing the harvest,shortage and experience of this translation report.Through the translation practice,the translator finds that Text Typology Theory and communicative Translation contribute to the solution of typical problems in the translation of wetland-related texts by realizing the informative and vocative function of the source text in the target language.What’s more,applicable translation skills summarized can provide reference for other C-E translations of wetland-related texts. |
