This is a report on the English-Chinese translation of an excerpt of BRICS Media Reshaping the Global Communication Order guided by Peter Newmark’s Text Typology.Focusing primarily on media research in the five BRICS countries, the author adopts a critical approach to analyze communication strategies and their effectiveness, and assesses the role of the BRICS countries in reshaping the global communication order, thus further contributing to internationalized media and communication research. The source text makes a detailed study of the media systems and their development in each of the five BRICS countries, and the translator selects the chapter focused on Chinese media going global.Readers can get a clearer understanding of China’s development path and its contribution to the global communication order, and further promote the building of a community of shared future in cyberspace together.According to Newmark’s Text Typology, the source text belongs to the collection of academic papers related to the media communication order, which contain some specialized theories in communication science. The main function of an informative text is its informative function, and the translator focuses on conveying the information of the source text while translating so that the reader can receive the information of the source text and give corresponding feedback while reading. Therefore, according to Newmark, the translator adopts the approach of communicative translation as the main focus and semantic translation as the supplement. And translation skills including amplification,word-class conversion, negation, and inversion can also be shown in the translation process so that the translation can realize the communicative function of the source text and be as close to the language expression of the target readers as possible. This report distinguishes the text features and applies them to communicative translation, and discusses how translators should deal with informative texts through specific case studies.Under the guidance of Text Typology, communicative translation is more applicable to informative text than semantic translation, and the selection of translation skills can help the translator better achieve the functions of the text. This practical report helps to improve translators’ translation ability and skills for informative texts in communication studies,so that the translator can have a deeper understanding of translation strategies under the guidance of Text Typology, and readers can have a better understanding of the development of China’s media system and its role in the global communication order.
