This paper is an interpreting practice report on C-E consecutive interpreting.This task,offered by Chengdu foreign affair office lasts for 6 days from 1st to 6th,October,2020.It requires the author to interpret for Tony and Robert,the ambassadors from Jamaica and the Bahamas.The aim of their visit is for business negotiation on the construction of Caribbean style town in Chengdu.Through this task,the author aims to deepen her understanding of the Interpretive Theory,and testify her ability to apply theory into practice.The author hopes to find out her weaknesses and strengths in doing interpreting so as to improve her performance in future practice and give other student interpreters references.Foreign affair related interpreting for interpreting learners is a big challenge,so the author wishes that this would paper give other students some suggestions to help them avoid the same problems she met.With the C-E consecutive interpreting during their visit in Chengdu as the material,and the Interpretive Theory as guidance,the writer analyzes the key and difficult points in her interpreting performance through comprehension,deverbalization,and expression,by respectively using the methods of simplification,cognitive supplement,logical processing and restructuring to solve the problems encountered.In general,the practice not only uncovers the shortcomings of the writer,for instance,the failure to understand some terms in such areas as tea,gulf,agriculture,and business cooperation;the backward response to number interpreting;the unfamiliarity in doing transform from Chinese to English,which results in some mistakes in grammars.However,it sharply improves her interpreting capability.The writer suggests that other interpreters keep practice,get exposed to as many topics as possible and build up vocabularies and encyclopedia knowledge.More importantly,students should step out of the comfort zone to challenge the test of real practice.They are also supposed to learn diplomatic interpreting courses and learn from other interpreters for their experience to avoid the same mistakes.In addition,being careful of choosing proper words is also important because reasonable expression can’t reduce divergence.The author hopes that this practice can be a reference for other students.
