Eating,as the prerequisite of living, plays a significant part in human society. And culinary culture serves as an important part of traditional Chinese culture, enjoying a long and profound history. This report chooses to look at a project in the interpreting of a Net Ease Open Course entitled “The Food in The Sui and Tang Dynasties” as a case study. The task involves a job of Chinese-to-English consecutive interpreting. This report seeks to examine the process and the techniques used to tackle the problems and it is hoped that reflections like this will help generate useful techniques for similar types of interpreting practice. This report is divided into four chapters. In the first chapter,a brief task description is given. The second chapter raises four major difficulties in the task, they are highly-literary Chinese, ancient food names, titles of ancient books, and ancient official titles. The third chapter gives corresponding interpreting techniques towards these four questions under the guidance of the Interpretive Theory. And all solutions follow the three steps of the Interpreting Triangular Model: comprehensiondeverbalization-re-expression.The techniques are as follows : the integration of information, transliteration plus annotation, paraphrasing, and borrowing. In the last chapter, the interpreter gives a conclusion of the task and looks into the future of the development of traditional Chinese culture under the circumstance of globalization, hoping that reflections like this will help generate useful techniques for similar types of interpreting practice.
