A Report On The C-E Subtitles Translation Of The Documentary The Village On The Cloud

As a C-E translation report on documentary subtitles,this report describes one task conducted by the author for translating of The Village on the Cloud released on Yunnan Satellite TV in 2018.It describes the beautiful natural landscape,splendid ethnic culture and simple villages in Yunnan,reflects the living conditions of the villagers,and plays an active role in Chinese culture going out and promoting the culture and tourism of Yunnan villages.The content of the documentary determines that the translation task should not only convey its meaning,but also retain its style,so as to interpret the customs and beautiful landscape of Yunnan villages.Guided by the theory of aesthetic translation,this report first analyzes the possible problems in C-E subtitles translation of documentary: misunderstanding of translation by aesthetic subjects and limitations of aesthetic object.Then it also analyzes the cases from the aspects of formal and non-formal system.Finally,this report concludes that translator can still exert subjective initiative,although the aesthetic subject of translation is subject to the aesthetic object,and the aesthetic object and subject are dialectically unified.The ambiguity and dialect barriers in subtitles can be solved through formal and non-formal system.Through aesthetic processing of translation,the subtitles are rhymed and rhetorical,so as to pursue visual and auditory aesthetics.In order to convey the language beauty of the original text,the translation techniques are mainly "simplification" and "annotation" due to the limitations of documentary subtitle translation in space and time instantaneity.
