| As the world is rapidly evolving with advances in science and technology,humanity has gained more rational and profound understanding of itself and its surroundings,which,in turn,shape its view of the physical and spiritual world.In art,this shift in understanding finds expression in two ways: transformation in the implied meanings they express and change in the spirit that they embody.In order words,such a change is mirrored in the way that artists appreciate,select,and use materials,and also in the fact that they now express their genuine feelings.Up to now,a variety of form languages and materials have been used in painting,carrying richer meanings.Metallic foil,a kind of material used in art projects,also finds its meaning expanded.It is applied to paintings for decorative and expressive purpose,and to reflect artist’s thoughts.Having been added to artistic pieces for three millenniums,metallic foil has still been widely used by artists and artisans,both at home and abroad.This is attributed to its enigmatic,metallic dazzle,cost-effectiveness,lightweight,as well as resistance to moisture and erosion.In brief,metal foil not only decorates paintings,but also plays a center role in conveying ideas and emotions,thanks to its profound cultural connotations.This thesis will analyze the color,texture and forms of metallic foils in painting,in an attempt to explore the technique of foiling,way to use it to express emotions,aesthetic qualities and its developments in various types of paintings. |
