The necessity of developing cross-cultural communicative competence in the 21 st century is obvious.Developing cross-cultural communicative competence has appeared in different English syllabuses of China’s Ministry of Education.The "General High School English Curriculum Standards"(2017)has set cross-cultural communicative competence as one of the goals of high school English courses.The teacher is the implementer of the classroom,and the development of students in cross-cultural communication is inseparable from the teacher’s cross-cultural communication ability and teaching,which means the development of teachers’ cross-cultural communication can’t be ignored.However,research on cross-cultural communication in the past mostly focused on conceptual discussions,and empirical types of research also focused on higher education groups.Thus,this study aims to find out the factors that influence the development and teaching of high school English teachers’ cross-cultural communication ability by investigating the current situation of high school English teachers’ cross-cultural communication ability and teaching in Shangrao.In this study,senior high school English teachers in Shangrao City were investigated by questionnaire and interviews.Through the analysis of the collected data and the sorted interview contents,it was found that the intercultural communicative competence of senior high school English teachers in Shangrao City was generally optimistic,which was manifested in the awareness and attitude of intercultural communication,but the knowledge and skills needed for intercultural communication were relatively lacking.The data show that the factors that influence the intercultural communicative competence of senior high school English teachers in this city include teaching years,educational background,professional titles,etc.,and teachers’ unclear understanding of the concepts related to cross-cultural communication and lack of learning approaches also have certain influences.The main factors affecting the cross-cultural communication teaching of senior high school English teachers in this city include lack of relevant training,examination-oriented training mode,lack of cross-cultural communication content in the existing textbooks,and insufficient teaching hours.
