This translation task is selected from Perform Under pressure: Change the Way You Feel,Think and Act Under Pressure(Chapters 2-3),written by Dr Ceri Evans,a forensic psychiatrist and independent consultant working with clients in the area of performance under pressure. This book analyzes the nature of pressure and puts forward the solutions to facing the pressure. In this book the readers will learn about the RED-BLUE mind model, which helps explain why pressure has such an impact on all of us.The RED-BLUE tool and related techniques for performance under pressure will provide them with practical help to think and feel clearly and perform better. The original text is an informative text,in which there are many proper nouns and jargons such as psychology and neuroscience, such as “(brain)limbic system","basal ganglia","dissociation".The translator clearly presents the proper nouns and terms involved in the translation in the form of a table for accurate translation. In the process of translation, the translator found that the translation of frequently occurring complex sentences, which often consist of relational pronouns, relational adverbs, logical connectives and subordinate clauses, was the most difficult. They are characterized by long sentence structures and difficult to understand.Under the guidance of Peter Newmark’s theory of language functions and communicative translation strategy, the translator mainly adopts division to solve the problem of long structure of the complex sentences;at the same time, the translator mainly adopts addition and conversion to solve the difficult points of the complex sentences when translating. Finally, the translator combined the above translation techniques with the context and the differences between Chinese and English to make the translation conform to the reading habits of the target language readers.Through this translation practice,it can be concluded that: 1)The translation of information texts must ensure accuracy and readability, while taking into account the stylistic characteristics of the original text;2)The translation of the titles in the book and subheadings in each chapter should consider three aspects at the same time:accuracy, expressivity and readability;3)The translation of complex sentences should combine context and pay attention to the differences between Chinese and English, and comprehensively use translation techniques such as division, addition, and conversion,so as to accurately express the original meaning.
