This thesis is a practice report on the C hinese-English technical translation of two agricultural engineering texts related to agricultural unmanned aerial vehicles(UAVs)—Text A is about predicting the time to acquire wind speed data by UAVs,while Text B studies the distribution law of pollen in the wind field of small UAV s.Both texts involve numerous technical terms concerning various disciplines and contain long complex sentences, which all manifest the challenges of this task.In the preparation period, professional dictionaries and relevant websites are consulted to build a term base foraccurate rendering.A translation tool called iC ATand corpora like BNC and COCA facilitate this translation practice. In order to achieve the closest communicative and informative effect on the readership as the original writer expects, correspondence, conversion and division are employed.Correspondence is taken to handle technical terms to ensure every term is properly and accurately rendered in terms of conceptual meaning, style and the cognitive model of English readers.Given that the agent is often omitted in Chinese sentences and that nominalisation is another feature of Sci-tech English, conversion is adopted, including the conversion of word class, sentence pattern and perspective.O n the basis of the semantic content and logic relations of the original text, division is employedtackle long C hinese sentences to convey the writer's findings clearly. This report presents three applicable translation techniques under the guidelines of communicative translation and uncovers the author's limitations in handling technical translation as a result of limited professional know-how.However,this report bears some referential value for further translation studies and research of agricultural engineering texts.
