Ethical Narration In Zhang Ling’s Novels

As one of the representative writers of new immigrant literature,Zhang Ling’s novels not only have the characteristics of "cross domain writing",but also contain the author’s continuous thinking and expression of the complex relationship between individual and history,society,culture and others,and spare no effort to show the mottled picture of human nature.Because of its rich ethical implication,this paper introduces the concept of "Ethical Narration" and takes nine novels written by Zhang Ling so far as the research object.It connects the ethical content in the "story" with the ethical intention reflected in the process of "narrative",and analyzes three main ethical themes: Gender ethics in the marriage narrative,the ethical narrative interpretation of family intergenerational ethics and individual survival ethics.This paper not only analyzes and summarizes the ethical crux of the story,but also discusses the role of narrative form in embodying the author’s ethical value through the analysis of the characters,plot structure and narrative subject.The first chapter of this paper discusses the Female Ethics and Gender Ethics in the "incomplete" marriage and love narrative.With this aesthetic and "incomplete" marriage and love narrative mode,Zhang Ling expresses her examination of the dilemma of marriage and love under the constraints of secular ethics,her concern about the situation of women in the patriarchal society,and her conception of ideal Gender Ethics.In the second chapter,through a series of complex and interlinked intergenerational relations in the family,Zhang Ling highlights the image of the runaway "rebellious son",and with the help of the organizational arrangement of narrative structure,outlines the intergenerational ethics from conflict and barrier to understanding and return.In the third chapter,Zhang Ling not only focuses on the reality of ordinary people’s survival struggle in the foreign soil and in the era of suffering,but also extends her writing into the heart of those who have suffered from trauma,reveals the law of saving the soul with love and care,which fully deepens the ethical expression of humanitarian care.Generally speaking,Zhang Ling’s ethical writing presents a kind of gentle and tolerant character.
