A Report On The E-C Translation Of Popular Science Text From The Perspective Of Translation Variation Theory

Dr.Colbert’s Hormone Health Zone,a best-selling book written by American doctor Don Colbert in 2019,is a typical popular science text.The book contains three parts,and systematically introduces how to bring patients back to the state of 25 years old by addressing hormonal imbalances,balancing and optimizing hormones.The selected translation materials are first three chapters of the first part.The translation practice began in June 2019 and ended in October 2020.Translation variation theory,a local Chinese theory,is put forward by Professor Huang Zhonglian.It is applicable for practical text translation,especially for scientific text translation.Popular science text is a variant of science text,so it is feasible to select the theory as the guiding theory of the practice.Six strategies of translation variation(addition,omission,compilation,narration,condensation and combination)are selected to analyze the source text by combining features of the source text and specific cases.Translation practice shows that translation variation theory has guiding significance for the translation of popular science texts: 1.Popular science texts are characterized by scientificity and popularity.It is conducive to realize the maximization of scientific information transmission by applying addition to give simple supplementary explanation and using omission to do selective deletion.2.Adopting compilation and narration to process and integrate source text can meet the needs of target language readers due to their different information acquisition habits.3.Since internal logical structure of the original text is relatively hidden,the application of condensation and combination can help readers comb logic and obtain the information of the source text quickly and accurately.Applying translation variation theory to solve the problems encountered in translation practice,it is proved that the theory is of guiding significance to the translation of medical science popular science texts.Figure 2;Table 0;Reference 33...
