This report selects its translation material from Preventing and Reversing Heart Disease For Dummies written by Dr.James M.Rippe.The book,as a popular science reading, introduces in vivid style and plain language the risks,symptoms,self-diagnosis,prevention and treatment of heart disease, along with an introduction to chronic cardiovascular diseases, such as hypertension. It is of great significance to boost people's living standard, enhance their cardiovascular conditions and improve overall health.Based on the translation of Chapters 4 and 5 of the book, this report seeks to analyze, under the guidance of the Variation Translation Theory, the application of the six translation strategies of Adding,Reducing,Editing,Rephrasing,Combining and Adapting in the translation of popular science texts. The report consists of four major parts. The first part serves as an introduction to the translation project, including the source, contents, significance of the practice, and the client's requirements for the task. The second part is the description of the process of the translation project, which is made up of the preparation of the project, translation process and the proof-reading work. The third part is case analysis,in which the Variation Theory is adopted to analyze the flexible methods employed in the creative translation of the texts as a way to meet the demands of the readers. The last part presents the valuable experience and inspiration drawn from the translation practice, which can be used as guidance for future translation work.
