A Report On The C-E Translation Of Apocalypse Of Air Crash（Flight 52,77,447）

The history of aviation for a century is not only the history of mankind’s exploration of the development of aviation,but also that of aviation safety and perfecting the discipline of flight safety.Since China’s economic reform and opening up,its aviation market has developed into the second largest in the world.The safety of civil aviation has always been the cornerstone of the development of civil aviation.Air crash,especially those caused by human errors,have become one of the most concerned issues in the aviation industry.In order to summarize the experience and lessons of air crash,and provide instruction for the pilot or the pilot candidate,the author chose to translate Apocalypse of Air Crash written by Qiao Shanxun.It collects and sorts out the air crash cases caused by human errors in the world aviation history from 1970 s to2010s,popularizing aviation safety knowledge and precautions,and make aviation practitioners realize the importance and necessity of paying attention to human errors.Based on three air crash cases in Chapter 3 and Chapter 4 in the book Apocalypse of Air Crash,this translation report analyses the text type of the ST and translation strategies from three aspects of lexical level,synthetic level and textual level.According to Newmark’s communicative translation theory,the translator should strive to make the translation have the same effect on the target language readers as the original.In this report,the author uses translation strategies such as full-translation and intra-system shift at lexical level for its accuracy and readability.Domestication and ellipsis are used at synthetic level to make the sentences in line with English expressions.The author also focuses on cohesion and coherence and reorganization of logic at textual level to make readers better understand the target text.In this translation project,the author has a deeper understanding of application of communicative translation theory to sci-tech text translation.Meanwhile,the author improves the ability of translation during the translation practice.This translation report mainly consists of four parts.The first part goes to the background and significance of the translation project and the ST.The second part is the description of the whole translation process,including preparations in the stage of pre-translation,difficulties encountered in the stage of while-translation and proofreading in the stage of post-translation.The third part analyzes several cases under the guidance of communicative translation theory.The summaries,major findings and limitations of this translation practice are summed up in the fourth part.
