As a form of popular culture,animation art is highly recognized by the audience and has a strong role in cultural communication.It is most appropriate to use animation media to spread traditional themes.Animation art based on traditional themes needs to be accepted by the public,which is inseparable from the integration of cultural spirit and the embodiment of image symbols.It should also carry the ideas,national characteristics,cultural details and public aesthetics of traditional culture.Traditional themes are excellent cultural heritage handed down from generation to generation,condensing people’s common historical memory and emitting a unique national cultural atmosphere,which needs to be inherited and innovated in contemporary society.This paper chooses the animation based on traditional themes as the research object,studies and explores the way of modern visual design,and provides a new perspective for inheriting traditional themes in the form of animation.After summarizing the traditional themes,this paper finds that many traditional aesthetic elements are used in animation,and actively discusses the significance of traditional themes in animation inheritance.Through the study of style,role and lens,combined with cases,this paper summarizes the characteristics of traditional theme animation in these three aspects.This topic combines the theoretical research with the creation practice of graduation design,analyzes the traditional topic of Lantern Festival through the creation process of animation short film,and discusses the visual design process of characters,sub mirrors and characters.After the art style experiment,it is determined to integrate the styles of ink,New Year pictures and paper-cut for a new attempt,To explore the feasibility of modern visual design in the traditional theme of the Lantern Festival.
