A Project Report On The C-E Translation Of Rural Tourism: The Path And Practice Of Rural Revitalization(Excerpt)

The rural tourism development helps to improve the villagers’ living conditions,strengthen environmental protection,and promote the prosperity and progress of rural places.Thus,it boasts a promising future at home and abroad.Against this background,it is necessary to introduce the Chinese rural tourism development patterns to the world.Therefore,the report focuses on the translation of texts concerning the typical Chinese rural tourism development patterns,and the author of this report analyzes the problems encountered in the translation practice and then summarizes relevant translation methods and techniques.The source text of this translation project is selected from chapter 9 of Rural Tourism: The Path and Practice of Rural Revitalization,which is mainly about the rural tourism development patterns in such three places as Huangling Village,Wuyuan County of Jiangxi province,Moganshan Village of Zhejiang province and Yuanjiacun Village of Shaanxi province.The author discusses the translation methods and techniques of the rural tourism texts through in-depth research on the relevant problems of the rural tourism development in the above-mentioned three places.The difficulties involved in this translation practice lie in the C-E translation of the expressions with Chinese characteristics,run-on sentences and null-subject sentences,and the representation of the features of the source text.The author of this report adopts different approaches to deal with the difficulties encountered in this translation practice under the guidance of Newmark’s communicative translation theory.When translating the expressions with Chinese characteristics,the author mainly uses the following methods as literal translation,free translation,literal translation with notes,transliteration with notes and omission.As for the translation of run-on sentences and null-subject sentences,the techniques adopted include reorganizing,rewriting,adding logical subjects,adjusting voices and using “There be” sentence patterns.Last but not least,in order to faithfully convey the style and characteristics of the source text,the author principally turns to these three methods: reproducing the title features,strengthening the coherence,and ensuring the normalization and accuracy of the target text.Based on the detailed analysis and discussion of translation cases,the author of this report attempts to provide appropriate translation methods and techniques,with the expectation of offering reference for the translation of similar texts.
