| With the growing prosperity of China’s rural tourism,the Chinese academic community has increased its researches on rural tourism.The English translation of the findings in this field is crucial to Chinese rural culture “going global” strategy.China’s Rural Tourism in the New Era is a relatively systematic academic work with a great deal of real data,which truly depicts the current situation of China’s rural tourism through the combination of various theories and filed researches.Chapter 9 of China’s Rural Tourism in the New Era is taken as the material for this translation practice report,which presents a real picture of the conservation,development and rural tourism of traditional villages in Sichuan.The text belongs to informative texts with its language being accurate,objective and logical,demonstrating the characteristics of academic writing.Peter Newmark’s communicative translation theory is applicable to the translation of informative texts,focusing on the accurate transmission of text content and communicative effect.Therefore,under the guidance of this translation theory,the translator endeavors to help more foreign friends learn about traditional villages,the valuable and living cultural heritages in China.The source text involves folk customs,traditional activities,ancient dwellings,historical culture and events,and contains some culture-loaded words,classical Chinese and complicated long sentences.Before translation,in order to understand and convey the original information more precisely,the translator obtains information related to traditional villages and folk culture in Sichuan by reading mass parallel texts.In the translation process,the translator adopts different translation methods and techniques to solve translation difficulties.At the lexical level,the translator mainly adopts transliteration with explanation,liberal translation,omission and conversion of part of speech;at the syntactical level,she applies division of long sentences,shift from active voice to passive voice,and reconstruction of word order;at the discourse level,she mainly discusses the examples from adding conjunctions or functional words to achieve semantic cohesion and coherence.Through this translation practice,the translator finds that communicative translation can effectively guide the translation of informative texts,and she also deeply realizes how important the translator’s language ability and cultural literacy are in translation work.Finally,the translator hopes that this translation practice report can provide some reference for the translation of this type of texts. |
