With the rapid development of China’s economy,China is becoming increasingly connected with the world.A growing number of foreigners travel to China to experience Chinese culture.Tourism texts,as a medium to spread ideas and exchange culture,figure prominently in the dissemination of culture.Therefore,it is of paramount importance to conduct Chinese to English translation of tourism texts.The book China Tour outlines the long scroll of the Chinese landscape with vivid language,presenting unique folk customs,lost ancient civilization and precious remains of civilization.The writer deems that the function of cultural exchange should be taken into account when translating tourism texts.Taking this text as an example,if the cultural connotation can be expressed,it will make a difference in the promotion of Chinese culture.The most crucial thing in spreading culture through translation is the translator’s good mastery of the native culture and the foreign language.Therefore,the translator first made a detailed analysis of the style and functions of this text,and found that numerous culture-loaded words in the book China Tour.Besides,the sentences in this text are lyrical,and some scenic spots in China are described in details,giving the reader a feeling that they are on the spot.After an in-depth analysis,it is considered that this text is a vocative text.The reader-centered Communicative Translation Theory helps the target readers to have a reading experience similar to that of the original readers.So,it is feasible to guide the translation of this text.Therefore,this translation practice report is conducted under its guidance.In order to better convey the translation methods employed in this practice report to the readers,this report further analyzes the application of Communicative Translation Theory in tourism texts through case analysis,mainly from the perspectives of vocabulary,syntax and discourse.At the lexical level,for words with Chinese characteristics,the translator advanced translation methods such as annotation and transliteration.At the syntactic level,the translation methods of adding subjects,conversion,sentence reorganization,and interpretation can be employed to make sentence expression more tally with the pragmatic habits of the target readers.At the textual level,methods like omission and substitution can be adopted to achieve the articulation and coherence of the discourse.By exploiting these methods,the translator delivers the culture in the source text,the author’s thoughts and emotions to achieve the purpose of communication.
