Tantou Woodblock New Year Pictures,as the only traditional woodblock watermark New Year Pictures in Hunan province,were listed into the first batch of national intangible cultural heritage lists in 2006.In recent years,the research on the publicity translation of intangible cultural heritage has received widespread attention.However,as an endangered intangible culture,Tantou Woodblock New Year Pictures are still lack of relevant research in this field of publicity translation.Based on the translation practice with Study on Tantou Woodblock New Year Pictures in Hunan(Excerpts)as the source text,this paper tries to explore relevant translation principles and translation methods of intangible culture text to enrich the research results in the field,making the utmost efforts to facilitate protection and inheritance of intangible cultural heritage in my hometown and hoping to revitalize the folk art form which is facing extinction.The source text is a kind of intangible culture text.I choose Chapter VII and Chapter IX as the source text that introduces the folk culture and religious connotation of Tantou Woodblock New Year Pictures in Hunan respectively and contains many characteristic culture words.Therefore,this paper takes Adaptation Theory put forward by Verschueren as theoretical guidance to analyze examples from the lexical level.In view of the difficulty of cultural differences in the translation of intangible cultural heritage,under the guidance of Adaptation Theory,the author dynamically adapts related translation methods like transliteration,annotation,literal translation,free translation,omission,amplification and others to explore the translation of New Year Pictures jargon and work names,the folk culture words,the religious culture words and four-character phrases.The author analyzes a large number of translation cases to explore the guiding role of Adaptation Theory in the publicity translation of intangible culture text.According to specific contextual correlates and translation purposes,translators need to choose proper translation strategies and methods and bring the subjectivity of translator into full play to make flexible and adaptive translation.It is indicated in the report that when translating the unique texts of intangible culture text,taking Adaptation Theory as theoretical guidance,the author should not only have a deep understanding of the cultural connotations,but also consciously choose appropriate translation strategies and methods to provide relevant reference for the study of publicity translation of such texts and let more people know Chinese culture of New Year Pictures.
