Abstract/Summary:
With the continuous development of globalization,more and more scholars at home and abroad devote themselves to the study of cross-cultural field,and the demand for cross-cultural business texts is also increasing.In this context,the translator selected the second chapter and the sixth chapter of Palgrave’s Handbook of Intercultural Business Negotiation as the materials for the translation task.Based on this,the translator made an analysis of the Chinese translation of texts related to cross-cultural business negotiation.The content of this book covers the introduction of multiple aspects of negotiation.It includes the works of authors from different countries around the world with different academic and practical backgrounds,which brings reference value for the research and application of theories and practices related to cross-cultural business negotiation.Under the guidance of Newmark’s communicative translation theory,the translator focused on analyzing the difficult problems encountered in translation and the application of translation skills and methods.The purpose of Newmark’s communicative translation is to reproduce the contextual meaning of the source text accurately and make the content and language of the target text easy to be accepted and understood by readers.Under the guidance of this theory,translation and research can achieve the purpose of accurately conveying the information of the source text and help the translator solve the difficult problems encountered in the translation,so as to provide the translation that can be accepted by the readers.Based on communicative translation strategies,the translator analyzed the problems in translation from lexical and syntactic levels.In terms of vocabulary,when translating terminology and special words,the translator paid more attention to conveying the authenticity of the information in the source text.According to the different lexical types and the context,the translator adopted explanation and paraphrase to analyze and solve the problems of missing or redundant information in the source text.Correspondingly,the translator adopted the method of word addition and provincial translation.In terms of syntax,the translation of complex and long sentences,as well as the translation problems caused by the differences between English and Chinese sentence structures,the target language should conform to the expression habits of the target language readers.The translator adopted the skills of division,combination,and word-order change.Through the analysis of specific cases,it is clear that the translation should give full play to the linguistic advantages of the target language.The translator should consider the feelings of the target language readers more,and achieve the readability of the target text on the basis of accurately transmitting the source text information,so as to provide excellent translation for the readers.Through the translation practice of The Palgrave Handbook of Cross-cultural Business Negotiation,the translator hopes to master some translation skills of cross-cultural related texts,convey the information in it more accurately,and introduce more reference materials for domestic researchers and learners in the field of cross-cultural communication who are interested in cross-cultural communication research.At the same time,the analysis of this translation practice report will also provide reference for the translation of more cross-cultural texts,so as to attract more enthusiasts in relevant fields to conduct research on cross-cultural text translation.
