Abstract/Summary:
In recent years,with the development of science and technology and the progress of electronic information age,the integration of information technology and education has become a new trend in the field of teaching.English writing,as a part of listening,speaking,reading,writing and viewing,plays an important role in English learning in junior middle school.The traditional English writing teaching is mainly based on the teachers’ analysis of writing topics,demonstration of writing outlines,explanation of grammar rules,sentence patterns,and writing samples.And then students complete English writings.This kind of English writing teaching does not take students as center and cannot stimulate students’ motivation and interest in writing.In addition,the same teaching materials in the same speed can hardly meet the needs of all students because of the differences in students’ own level and ability.This paper,with the help of lesson study,aims to explore the application of flipped classroom in English writing teaching.The author chose students who were in Grade Eight in a middle school in Tianjin as the research participants,and used flipped classroom to design and implement English writing teaching,aiming to stimulate students’ writing motivation and improve their writing ability.Based on the above purposes,this lesson study puts forward the following research questions: 1)Can flipped classroom improve students’ writing ability? 2)Can flipped classroom stimulate students’ writing motivation and change their attitude towards English writing?The research participants were 45 students in Grade Eight in a junior middle school in Tianjin where the author practiced,and they took part in two cycles lesson study of English writing teaching based on flipped classroom.This study used five research instruments: questionnaire,classroom observation,writing test,interview and teaching reflection to study students’ writing ability and interest.Before the implementation of lesson study,the author gave out a questionnaire to all students in Grade Eight to analyze their writing interest,and collected the writing scores of 45 students to understand their writing ability.Through classroom observation,students’ participation in class and completion of writing tasks were observated to find out the shortcomings of current writing teaching.Based on this,instructional design,implementation of lesson study and reflection were carried out.Finally,students’ writing motivation and evaluation of flipped classroom were studied through interview,and students’ writing ability was studied through writing test.The main conclusions of this paper are as follows: Firstly,students like the application of flipped classroom in junior middle school.To some extent,flipped classroom stimulates students’ writing motivation and changes their attitude towards English writing.Secondly,flipped classroom improves students’ writing ability.This lesson study explores the application of flipped classroom in English writing teaching in junior middle school,which provides valuable reference for junior middle school English teachers.
