The Research On The Immigration And Colonial Thought Of Yokoyama Gennosuke

Yokoyama Gennosuke(1871-1915)is a famous researcher of social problems in modern Japan.He is well known by the mass society for his research methods of underclass society based on field investigation and historical records of the “The Underclass Society In Japan”.However,The development of his thought of Labor movement thought and Colonial thought,and the position of Immigration and Colonial thought in his overall thought and his understanding of Asia need to be further analyze.This thesis is based on the 140 articles in “The Volumes Of Yokoyama Gennosuke ” 7 and 8 with the works of “Japanese Who Are Active Overseas” “The Guide To Going Abroad In South America” “The Guide Of Brazil In South America”,and analyzing of Yokoyama Gennosuke process from the thought of Labor movement thought to the thought of Immigration and Colonial thought and the content of Immigration and Colonial thought,and analyzing of the characteristics of his Immigration and Colonial thought and the position of Immigration and Colonial thought in his overall thought.This thesis mainly consists of five parts.The preface part clarifies the research topic of this paper by combing the advance research.The first chapter discusses the Yokoyama thought of labor movement,centering on the“After The Inland Living In The Same Area Of The Japan”published in1899.Yokoyama advocate solving social problems through Trade union movements and Political movements,and try to realize political Socialization on this basis.However,he did not further deepen the theory.This is the limitation of his thought.The second chapter investigation the ideological track of Yokoyama from Labor movement thought to South America Immigration and Colonial thought,and analyzes the background of his South America Immigration and Colonial thought from three aspects: Labor problems,Anti Japanese movement and Cosmopolitanism.At the same time,this chapter also the contents and characteristics of the Model colonial thought,and pointed out that his Labor centered concept has been replaced by nationalism after the Russo Japanese War.The third chapter mainly discusses Yokoyama’s understanding of Asia,pointed out that although he tried to draw a clear line with the imperialist Immigration and Colonial thought,his proposition has not deviated from the category of imperialism.In addition,while criticizing the differential consciousness of white racists,Yokoyama produced the differential consciousness within Asia by using sovereign state,civilization and other standards.The conclusion part attempts to summarize Yokoyama’s Immigration and Colonial thought and clarify his thought limitations.
