From the perspective of semiotics,human communication activities are the exchange and transmission of information and the resulting social interaction behaviors.Information is the unity of signs and meanings.The essential function and sole mission of symbols is to convey meaning.Therefore,the essence of communication and interaction between people is the construction and dissemination of symbols,and human communication activities cannot be separated from symbols.The national image is formed in the information exchange and social interaction activities between countries,and the process of its construction and dissemination will inevitably be inseparable from symbols.China’s development is changing with each passing day,but the country’s image has not kept up with the pace of China’s development.The ancient civilization with a long history has become our most familiar image for overseas audiences,but it also seems to have become a "stereotype." For China,which is currently in a stage of continuous development and progress,its national image needs to be updated urgently.According to the current survey of the media and people of various countries,it can be found that the "old civilization" is still their most basic and stable perception of China,which has become a disadvantage in the construction of a modern country’s image.Judging from the global survey of China’s national image conducted by the China Foreign Languages Publishing Administration in recent years,technology and culture have always been the brightest part of the country’s image.Overseas audiences expect China to be able to shape its image as a "contributor to global development" in the future.Therefore,among the "new symbols" of national image that have continuously emerged in recent years,technology symbols are undoubtedly the brightest and most suitable for dissemination.It not only meets the development requirements of the times and real national conditions,but also caters to the expectations and recognition of overseas audiences.Constructing and disseminating new and modern national image symbols with new features of scientific and technological elements can not only improve the current national image symbol system,but also show the country’s technological and innovative strength.Based on this,this article focuses on the construction and dissemination of new scientific and technological symbols of China’s national image,aiming to establish a set of new,modernized national image symbols with scientific and technological elements.On the basis of the single national image of "ancient civilization country",China will be enriched to construct the national image of "powerful country in science and technology" and "new digital country".The innovation of this article is to define the "new symbol" of China’s national image,and to discuss and study the scientific and technological aspect of the national image.And combined the perspectives of "self-shaping" and "other-shaping" to screen out scientific and technological symbols that can represent China’s image.In terms of research methods,this article mainly adopts research methods such as literature induction,content analysis and case studies.First,it sorts out relevant documents at home and abroad,summarizes the current communication history and status of China’s national image symbols,and analyzes the reasons for the difficulties encountered in the process of symbol communication.And define the "new" symbol.Secondly,combined with semiotic theory,analyze the reports of China’s science and technology in "Global Survey Report on China’s National Image" and "People’s Daily"(Overseas Edition).And among the many Chinese symbols,technology symbols such as "artificial intelligence","Internet of Things","high-speed rail","manned space technology","Huawei","Alibaba",and "Tik Tok" were selected.Finally,the relevant strategies for constructing and disseminating the new symbols of the national image of science and technology are proposed,mainly through three channels.One is the macro level.Give full play to the advantages of the official media and professional journalists to tell China’s "science and technology story." The second is the meso level.Technology companies should focus on building international technology brands,use innovative technology as the driving force,and use product quality and after-sales service to reverse the stereotype that "Made in China equals crude manufacturing".Attract more overseas consumers to use Chinese technology products,so that products can speak for China.The third is the micro level.Give full play to the advantages of international students as a "bridge crowd".The government and enterprises can interact with the people in an appropriate way,so that the overseas students can provide more information about China’s science and technology to overseas audiences through vlog and other forms,and enhance their understanding of China’s real science and technology situation.In the current world pattern,the competition among countries is increasingly fierce.The current world information dissemination order is still dominated by a few developed countries,especially European and American countries.The unidirectional dissemination of information contributes to the arrogance of "media imperialism" and"cultural hegemony".Due to ideological differences and the pursuit of self-interest by countries in the world,China will inevitably encounter difficulties in the process of constructing a real and objective national image.In the face of negative reports and doubts from the West,we should always uphold the belief in "peaceful development"and emphasize China’s image as a "contributor to global development." The purpose of building China’s scientific and technological image is to allow the world to deepen its understanding of China.China is not only an ancient civilization with a long history and rich culture,but also an advanced,modern,innovative and creative country of science and technology.The ultimate goal is that China has the strength and sense of responsibility,and is willing to contribute "Chinese wisdom" and"Chinese power" to global governance and world development. |
