The emergence of cities is inseparable from the struggle for human rights such as freedom and the development of social productivity. However, when the urban crisis gradually became apparent around the 1960 s,traditional urban political science research seemed powerless in the face of these practical problems.During this period, the Western Marxist urban school represented by David Harvey opened a new chapter in the study of urban politics through a Marxist perspective.David Harvey is a well-known geographer. His research on urban politics began with his "Marxist turn." Marx’s analysis of capital was the cornerstone of his urban political theory. At the same time, from the rise of globalization,Then the economic crisis and urban issues are intertwined. The characteristics of the era have given realistic support to Harvey’s urban political research. For the capitalist city problem,Harvey’s urban political theory is based on the criticism of capital accumulation. He uses the logic of capital accumulation to reveal the origin of cities, that is,the process of urbanization is often carried out around accumulation and class struggle.Ideological factors also affect urban development, and cities are also seen as one of the root causes of the capitalist economic crisis; On this basis, globalization has been seen by Harvey as a driving force influencing the development of capitalist economy and capitalist cities. When the accumulation of capitalism on a global scale caused uneven geographical development,it also exposed urban space to “time-spatial fix”,predatory accumulation and other means, the problems existing in urban space are exactly the manifestation of uneven geographical development at the micro level;Facing the crises of capitalist cities,Harvey tried to find "alternative solutions" for the development of capitalist cities. In his view, striving for urban rights and launching an urban revolution is the only way to achieve spatial justice, and it is also an inevitable choice to change various urban issues. This article starts from the theoretical source and background of David Harvey’s urban political theory, and summarizes the core dimensions of Harvey’s urban political theory in detail. It focuses on “ urbanization of capital ”,“ Uneven geographical development”,An analysis of the three dimensions of "Regaining Urban Rights" reveals the origin and nature of cities, existing problems, and future trends under Harvey’s urban political theory, and evaluates the existing biases.Under the complicated urban problem, the single capital logic in Harvey’s theory seems too thin, and at the same time,he has not put forward a specific practical plan that can be implemented,so his thinking is non-scientific.
