Research On "Red Flag Reading Movement" Of Shanghai Youth,1959-1966

Young people are the hope of the nation and the future,builders and successors of socialist cause with Chinese characteristics.In order to better enable the youth to build the socialist cause,the Communist Party of China has always attached great importance to the ideological education of the youth.After the founding of the People’s Republic of China,the Party and the government launched various educational campaigns with the Youth League as the main camp to strengthen the ideological education of young people and improve their proletarian consciousness through a gentle and drizzle education method,among which the Red Flag Reading Movement is the most typical example.This paper takes the Red Flag Reading Movement as the object and comprehensively adopts the literature research method and case study method to carry out the research.On the basis of fully excavating the archives of Shanghai Archives,supplemented by newspapers and periodicals,we strive to restore the whole process of the Red Flag Reading Movement in Shanghai.This paper first introduces the historical background of the Red Flag Reading Movement,then sorts out its development process and summarizes its organizational mechanism and implementation methods,finally makes a historical evaluation of the Red Flag Reading Movement and draws realistic enlightenment.This paper holds that the reason why this seven-year long reading movement can continue to play a role in a larger scope is inseparable from the specific implementation process of the organization.The Red Flag Reading Movement is a combination of the Party’s policies and units at the center of the work to carry out organizational leadership,the relevant departments are good at using a variety of guidance to promote the development of the movement.At the same time,it focuses on cultivating learning backbones to promote youth participation and rooting for the general public.The grassroots society and other methods have been loved by the vast number of young people.The research shows that the above-mentioned characteristics are the key to the sustainable development and great achievements of the Red Flag Reading Movement.The positive effects achieved by the Red Flag Reading Movement itself and some of the shortcomings shown in the process are the important experience of the Party’s ideological education in the period of all-round construction of socialism,which has provided valuable wealth for the cultivation and education of the contemporary youth by the Chinese Communists.Up to now,it is still of great significance to strengthen the communist ideological education of the youth.The historical experience of the Red Flag Reading Movement is still worth learning from.
