| The amount of individual social support determines the quality of his life.Interpersonal adaptation,as an important part of socialization,reflects the degree of individual adaptation to social life.Rural left-behind children,the group accompanied with urbanization and modernization in China,face certain problems in interpersonal adaptation due to lack of indispensable and systematic social support.If it keeps unsolved for a long time,it is not only going to influence to the healthy growth of left behind children,but also the progress of the whole society.With in-depth interview and questionnaire survey,this study investigates social background,status of social support,and status of interpersonal adaptation of left behind children in Chenghai Township,Lijiang City,Yunnan Province,and then analyzes the influence of left-behind children’s social support on their interpersonal adaptation.First of all,parents of left-behind children work outside of town very often,and the time is quite long;rural left-behind children and their parents mainly contact by telephone,but not frequently;the caregivers of left behind children are mainly grandparents who are not highly educated;overall life satisfaction of rural left-behind children is particularly low.Second,in terms of social support,structure of social support of left behind children is not well balanced.The governmental support for rural left behind children is mainly survival support,with little educational support;the community support for rural left behind children is quite missing;the school support for rural left behind children is mainly administrative with little developmental support.For instance,teachers’ support mainly focuses on academic achievement only rather than on life support,while classmates give more understanding support to them;the family support for rural left behind children is mainly material support with little developmental support.Then,the interpersonal adaptation of rural left behind children varies due to their social backgrounds,and there is a significant gap between the interpersonal adaptation of rural left behind children and rural non left behind children.Finally,the regression analysis of social support and interpersonal adaptation of left behind children shows that the overall situation of social support for rural left behind children has a positive impact on the overall status of interpersonal adaptation and different dimensions of interpersonal adaptation;dimensions of social support of rural left behind children have positive influences on the overall status and dimensions of their interpersonal adaptation.analysis of influence path of social support of rural left behind children on their interpersonal adaptation shows that governmental support can influence interpersonal adaptation through community support and school support through a chain mediating mechanism;community support can influence interpersonal adaptation through school support,family support with a chain mediating mechanism;Based on the above findings,this study raises policy suggestions with social support theory.A four-in-one social support network of "government guidance,community assistance,school connection and family orientation" is raised.That is to say,the government should guide the construction of formal social support mechanism;community assistance focuses on promoting adjustment and integration of community policy;promoting integrative development of rural and urban development with educational convergence;promoting the humanistic value turn of family policy based on family orientation. |
