STEM education has become an important educational concept in the background of education globalization,which has attracted widespread attention and high attention from all countries in the world.In recent years,STEM education has been gradually extended to the field of early childhood education.However,the domestic research on early childhood STEM education is still in the exploratory period.Most of studies focus on single themed activities,There is also a lack of research on early childhood STEM education.Based on this,this research attempts to construct and explore the STEM education model in early childhood education,hoping to provide reference for the better development of early childhood STEM education.In this study,literature review is firstly used to sort out and summarize STEM education,early children’s education and teaching model.Then this research analyzes the basic elements of early childhood STEM teaching model in detail,they are the theoretical basis,teaching objective,teaching process,teaching strategies and teaching evaluation,and tries to build a prototype of the "four periods and six steps" STEM teaching model in early childhood education,"four periods" refers to the four periods of "watch,ask,play and show",and "six steps"refers to the six steps of "scene introduction","problem discussion","game driving","group cooperation","work sharing" and "summary communication".Then the research is designed by the research framework,research participants,research environment,research arrangement and research tools.Finally through three kindergarten STEM projects and three rounds of the iteration.each round including design,action,observation and improvement.By using the evaluation of classroom observation,evaluation of children’s works and interview investigation,all data of the evaluation is analyzed to get the conclusion,which verifies the actual effect of the "four periods and six steps" STEM teaching model in early childhood education,and helps to understand the attitude of teachers and children towards the model and to improve the model prototype.The research founds that the "four periods and six steps" model can significantly improve the teaching effect and scores of children’s STEM works,it can stimulate children’s interest in learning and create a good teaching and learning atmosphere,it can also enhance children’s experience of STEM learning.Children have a high degree of acceptance of this model,and teachers have a high degree of recognition of this model.It is generally believed that this teaching model is easy to understand and has strong operability,which is conducive to promoting the development of STEM teaching activities in the field of early childhood education.This study hopes to provide reference for the research on early childhood STEM education,and to enrich the theoretical system of STEM teaching model in early childhood education.Due to the limitation of time and ability,the research is only carried out in the curriculum program.In the future,the research will care more about children’s cognitive characteristics and development needs,and improve this model to obtain a wider range of application.
