The western Guangdong region,as a relatively backward economic development area in Guangdong Province, has an urgent need to realize the modernization of education and accelerate the development of vocational education.Studying the adaptability of the professional structure and industrial structure of higher vocational colleges in western Guangdong will promote the development of economically underdeveloped regions, which is conducive to improving the teaching quality of higher vocational colleges and the scientific adjustment and optimization of the professional structure of higher vocational colleges. This study uses the qualitative research methods such as literature research method and comparative research method based on Pedi-Clark’s theorem, human resource theory, and gray system theory, and combines gray correlation analysis method and constructs gray forecast model and other empirical research methods..A longitudinal and horizontal survey and analysis were conducted on the industrial development situation in the western Guangdong area, the internal development of the industry, the internal structure of the industry in various cities, the employees and the development trend, and the demand for talents. It is found that the current industrial structure in western Guangdong is of the "three, two, one" type, and the professional structure is of the "two, three, one" type.Among the demand for labor structure, the demand for primary industry talents shows a steady growth trend. The secondary industry talents Demand is positively related to output value, and the demand for talent in the tertiary industry is gradually becoming saturated.Through the gray prediction model GM(1,1),the output value structure and proportion of the industrial structure in western Guangdong and the trend of enrollment in higher vocational colleges are predicted from 2019-2024.The results show that the output value of the primary industry in western Guangdong will decline somewhat in 2019-2024,and it will show a slow growth trend after 2021,but the industry share will be reduced three times each year;the output value of the secondary industry will increase steadily, and the share Decrease;the tertiary industry’s output value will grow fastest, and its proportion will exceed 50%.Judging from the forecast of enrollment in the professional structure, the enrollment trend of the primaryindustry in the western region of Guangdong has shown a straight upward trend, and the enrollment trend of the resource, environment, and security categories in the secondary industry has shown a steady increase. It will reach the peak of enrollment, and then show a downward trend;the food, drug and grain categories show a linear growth trend, and the growth rate is faster than the other two categories. The enrollment trend of electronic information in the tertiary industry category has shown a linear growth, and the trend of enrollment in tourism and education and sports has increased steadily. The enrollment of news and communication categories is forecast to exceed that of tourism in 2024.The category is decreasing year by year. Finally, from a micro perspective, put forward specific strategies to adapt to the development of each city. From the macro perspective of the western Guangdong region,it is proposed that the government should play a leading role to form an effective professional setting review mechanism;the structural connection between "supply" and "demand" to build a professional dynamic adjustment mechanism;accurately connect regional industrial structures to form a new office Effective professional support mechanism to optimize the professional structure and industrial structure of vocational colleges in western Guangdong.
