| Youth Hostel long-term guest is a new cultural phenomenon in the modern mobile society, which is a youth subculture worthy of attention and exploration. This paper uses Beck’s theory of individualization for reference, adopts qualitative research methods, uses the methods of participant observation and depth interviews to collect data, focuses on the investigation of the practice process of the Young Hostel long-term guests in the individualized society, and takes the three dimensions of individualization(Separation,Disenchantment and re-implantation)as the theoretical framework to explore their individualized forms of expression, and analyzes the problems they are facing.Through research, the main findings are as follows.First of all, from the perspective of “Separation”,long-term residents are separated from the original social structure and enter into the new because of the charm of the prosperous city, the attraction of job opportunities, the natural development of life course, and the pursuit of independent life. The Youth Hostel that promote communication provide these individuals with a way to quickly obtain social support.Secondly, from the perspective of “Disenchantment”,the mobile "long-term passengers" are “de-traditionalization” in the new environment of Youth Hostel. They overcome their old habits, reduce their original dependence and support, change their past behavior orientation, weaken their past emotional interactions, and quickly adapt to the new life. They find the sense of security in the flow, and actively create the living atmosphere, develop weak relationships to obtain unexpected resource support, overcome the risks and uncertainties associated with the “disenchantment” process,so as to build a new sense of security and certainty.Thirdly, from the perspective of “Re-implantation”,the long-term guests constantly adjust their own attitudes towards life during the life in Youth Hostel, learn to deal with the relationship with other guests and the hostel operators, and create a harmonious atmosphere to promote compatibility, interdependence and symbiosis.A special micro community has been built inside the long-term guests, and they faced the different situations rationally when forming new emotional connections. When the conditions are mature, they will choose their living style rationally again, and return to a more stable lifestyle. Finally, based on economic, mobility, social and psychological reasons, the longterm guests choose to live in the Youth Hostel on the basis of rational thinking. They also face some problems in the process of Individualized: the lack of physical and psychological private space due to the squeeze of public space;the unclear limit of emotional input due to the excessive mobility;anxiety about the future spreading and increasing due to the difference between environment and ideal imagination, and even if the physical distance is closer, the inner loneliness is still serious. These reflect the common problems encountered by such subculture youth groups in the process of individualization of modern society. |
