The physiological and psychological characteristics of children in the upper grades of primary school determine the importance of emotional management during their socialization. However, for a long time, their emotional management problem has not been paid enough attention to by their family and school, and more and more tragedies happen to the children in the upper grades of primary school due to their immature emotional management ability.Guided by the theory of "Looking-Glass Self" theory, this paper used EIS(Emotional Intelligence Scale)as a measuring tool and group work as a practical method to measure and evaluate the four dimensions of emotional management: emotional cognition, emotional control, emotional regulation and emotional expression before and after group members participated in the group. The advantages, effectiveness and skills of group work intervention in the field of emotional management were explored. The results of the study show that emotional expression is the dimension that most difficult to improve when emotional management is carried out in the upper grade children in primary school, which is the weak point of emotional management. When social workers intervene in groups targeted at them, the key to children’s emotional management lies in the handling of emergencies, the awareness and transformation of their roles in the groups, and the accurate and timely application of their skills. From the measurement results, the way of group work in social work can be an effective way to improve the emotional management ability of children in the upper grades of primary school in a relatively short period of time.
