In recent years,China’s out-of-school remedial market is a "blowout" type of development trend.Especially in China’s more developed first-tier cities,out-of-school remedial institutions are not only a large number, the scale is amazing. The pyramid was built by countless parents who invested in their children’s education at no cost.In this active participation in the ranks of extracurricular remedial work, the number of middle-class families can not be underestimated. This study focuses on the middle-class families in the first-tier cities of our country, mainly to explore the middle class, which itself occupies good social resources,is for what purpose to act as an active participant in the out-of-school remedial market, and whether the effect of participating in after-school remedial study is to meet their expectations and so on.At the same time, through the middle-class families to participate in extra-curricular remedial motivation, effect and other issues of understanding and discussion, and from the perspective of further social stratification to analyze the relationship between the behavior in society. In this paper, based on qualitative research as a research method, selected six groups of middle-class families living in Shanghai, and participated in extracurricular remedial, are facing the college entrance examination as the research object, through the interview-oriented,observation-assisted research methods to understand their motivation and effect in participating in extra-curricular remedial. On the basis of rooting theory, the original materials are organized and analyzed, and the middle-class families living in first-tier cities are presented in the course of participating in extra-curricular remedial work by means of scenario analysis and generic analysis.Toenable readers to experience the story behind these middle-class families’ participation in extracurricular remedial work. Finally, this paper takes the theory of social stratification as the theoretical perspective, tries to analyze the deeper significance of their participation in extracurricular remedial work from the actual situation of middle-class families participating in extra-curricular remedial work. The study found that: First, the middle-class families in the first-tier cities,as the main consumer group in the after-school remedial market, have more complex motivations to participate in extra-curricular remedial work.As the middle group in society, the reality of the middle class is "less than the ratio, more than the next" situation makes the group have greater anxiety and pressure. On the one hand, they fear that they will be chased by the disadvantaged, and on the other hand they are eager to move closer to the dominant class, which prompts them to take appropriate measures in order to maintain their class status. As vested interests of quality education, they attach great importance to the importance of education, which is an important tool for them to maintain their position, carry out class re-engineering and class mobility. When the competition in in-school education is saturated, the competition of out-of-school education is particularly important. At the same time, the fierce competition in the social background and the depreciation of diploma sour is also one of the reasons why they actively participate in extra-curricular remedial work. Finally, the first-tier middle-class families to participate in after-school remedial, not only will affect academic performance, but also affect the individual’s mood, the effect is different from person to person.
