More and more literature pays attention to the role of universities in regional economic and social development.It is generally believed that universities play an important role in regional social development and economic growth in the era of knowledge economy.China’s economic growth has gradually abandoned the traditional extensive development model,and is facing a new development concept of innovation driven and independent development.In addition to the traditional elements such as labor and capital,knowledge is increasingly regarded as an important stimulus factor for regional economic growth,and often the strategic focus of regional economic growth.Based on the background of this era,the development strategies such as innovation driven and talents powerful have given universities new historical mission.The functions of colleges and universities have gone beyond the traditional scope of teaching and research,and began to actively adapt to the development of regional economy and society.Knowledge innovation and knowledge spillover make the business functions of colleges and universities gradually become the core of regional economic activities.It has become a hot topic in the field of contemporary higher education and regional economic and social development that how to control the position of colleges and universities in the regional economic society and promote the coordinated development of colleges and universities and regional economy.University has a huge impact on economic growth.Based on consulting relevant domestic and foreign literature,the thesis treats university function concepts into three types of higher education output,namely education services,business services,new knowledge and new technologies.The provincial panel data of 31 provinces in China from 2001 to 2017 are selected to analyze the higher education output and economic growth in China and the East,middle and west regions The dynamic panel model is constructed with long correlation index,and the GMM method is used to study the influence of universities on economic growth.It is found that the educational services and business services in the higher education output have a significant positive role in promoting economic growth,while new knowledge and new technology may have a negative impact on the economy in a short period of time due to the inability or low conversion rate of technological innovation achievements.At the regional level,the impact of three kinds of higher education output on economic growth varies with the scale of higher education and the economic and social development in different regions.According to the results of this empirical study,the paper puts forward the policy suggestions of promoting regional economic growth from three aspects:the development status of regional universities,the growth status of regional economy and the status of three kinds of higher education output serve regional economic growth.
